My earliest memory of a saree isn't about fashion. It's about my mother.

When I was five years old, I began living with my grandparents while my parents lived in another town. I missed my mother every single day. I would often cry secretly, but I never wanted anyone to know. Over time, I convinced myself that I had become strong enough to live without her.

A few years later, when I was in the 6th or 7th standard, my mother came to visit us. Before leaving, she accidentally forgot one of her sarees.

The next morning, after it had been washed and hung out to dry, I saw it.

Without thinking, I ran towards it, wrapped my arms around it and started crying.

I couldn't hug my mother, so I hugged the closest thing I had to her.

A neighbour who saw me smiled gently and said,

"Yesterday you told everyone you didn't miss your mother."

She was right.

I had spent years hiding my feelings, even from myself. But in that moment, I realised that some emotions don't need words.

That saree carried my mother's warmth, love and comfort.

That memory stayed with me.

As I grew older, I began seeing sarees differently. They reminded me of the incredible women around me—women who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, cared for everyone, and quietly carried more responsibilities than anyone noticed. Yet I also saw how often they were expected to put everyone else's dreams before their own.

I worked hard, became an engineer and built my career. Along the way, I realised that confidence isn't just about financial independence. It's about having the freedom to be yourself without compromising who you are.

That's how Gaurangi was born.

I wanted to create thoughtfully designed cotton sarees for modern working women who shouldn't have to choose between comfort and elegance. Sarees crafted from breathable natural fabrics that feel as beautiful as they look, move effortlessly from office meetings to family celebrations, and become the ones women reach for again and again.

For me, a saree has always been more than fabric.

As a little girl, it carried my mother's love.

Today, I hope every Gaurangi saree carries comfort, confidence and the quiet reminder that a woman never has to choose between caring deeply and creating boldly.

If a forgotten saree could once comfort a little girl, I hope every Gaurangi saree becomes a source of comfort, confidence and quiet strength for the women who wear it.
